The Chittoor Fisheries Department launches a 5-day awareness campaign to help fish farmers mitigate El Niño impacts like water shortage and low oxygen.

CHITTOOR: The Fisheries Department has launched a district-wide El Niño awareness campaign running from August 3 to August 7 in Chittoor district.

Speaking at a special awareness program held at the Krishnapuram project in Karvetinagaram mandal on Monday, District Fisheries Deputy Director Pramodu Malli warned that El Niño causes water shortages, accelerated evaporation, and low dissolved oxygen levels in reservoirs.

Officials urged fishermen to adopt scientific fish management practices, including assessing water quality prior to stocking fingerlings and undertaking phased harvesting as water levels decline to prevent heavy losses during dry periods.
