MK Stalin Criticised TN CM Vijay And Called Him As 'Dummy Chief Minister'

MK Stalin sharply criticised and called Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay an "inept" and "dummy chief minister." The tensions between the DMK and the ruling TVK simmered over the dramatic arrest of Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin. Stalin accused Vijay's government of employing police action to deflect attention from its "failure" to defend the state's interests on the Cauvery water issue and issued a harsh warning that arrogance leads to destruction.

MK Stalin was harsh in his criticism of Vijay despite the Madras High Court's order for Udhayanidhi's release. Earlier in the day, the Leader of the Opposition was detained from his Chennai home after making a crude comment that was generally taken to be a reference to Vijay's close friend, actor Trisha.

The police action, according to the former chief minister, was merely an attempt to hide the government's obvious failure on the Cauvery issue or to oppose the Mekedatu dam in neighboring Karnataka. In addition, he questioned why the arrest occurred the day before the Budget session began.

"An inept dummy Chief Minister can't bring Cauvery water, can't even speak up to stop the Mekedatu dam," Stalin claimed.

Additionally, he asserted that the TVK government was more preoccupied with criticism of Vijay's film (Jana Nayagan) than with the suffering of farmers. "A joker Cabinet has taken hold in Tamil Nadu," according to Stalin.

The controversy started after alleged offensive remarks made by Udhayanidhi on Monday during a event against the Vijay government's handling of the Cauvery water crisis in Thanjavur.

The DMK has attacked the TVK administration after Karnataka disregarded orders from the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to provide the necessary quantity of Cauvery water.

The controversy is linked to proposed Mekedatu dam project in Karnataka, which lies near the point where the Cauvery enters Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu has opposed the project, arguing that Karnataka might be able to control water flows with more upstream storage.
