‘Objection My Lord’ review: A mixed bag

Courtroom dramas are usually about mind-boggling arguments, heart-wrenching drama and twists that keep you on the edge of your seat. Objection My Lord, available on ZEE5, tries its best to blend the intriguing trials with a sensitive family drama but ends up being only partially satisfying.

The seven-episode series follows Advocate Parasuram (Srikanth), who has returned to the city after years of self-exile to defend Narayana, a father who immolates himself after his daughter Sameera goes missing. As Parasuram delves deeper into the case, he uncovers more than just the truth about Sameera. Other eminent lawyers like Viswanath (Mukesh Rishi) and young Vedha (Ananya Sharma) along with others get involved with it.

Srikanth is undoubtedly the highlight of Objection My Lord. He brings in a certain degree of gravitas into the character that makes Parasuram instantly likeable throughout the episodes, especially during the courtroom drama. Mukesh Rishi is back in the limelight, playing Viswanath, a stoic character but the role does not allow him to explore much. Rayala Harischandra, Snehal Kamath and Ananya Sharma all play their part well.

Santosh Ayyappan, the director, has some interesting ideas up his sleeve that keeps you engaged till the first two episodes. But from there, the show begins to lag and sags as the narrative unfolds. Courtroom clashes fail to evoke the necessary drama and the script becomes increasingly redundant. Besides the climax, there is barely any other twist in this series that keeps you guessing. Except for the revelation in the final episode, everything else seems to be a cliched redo of the existing tropes that we see in almost every other courtroom drama.

Anil Chiluvuru’s background score is perfect for the show but other technical departments like cinematography and editing are just average. Overall, it is a mediocre series with an underwhelming script and some first-rate performances. If you are in the mood for a good courtroom drama, Objection My Lord will keep you engrossed for a short while but soon have you drifting off into la-la land.
