Godavari Flood Threat Eases; First Warning Withdrawn in Mulugu

WARANGAL: The flood situation in the Godavari river in Mulugu district has gradually returned to normal after remaining severe for the past four days. With the water level receding, officials on Sunday officially withdrew the first flood warning issued at Ramannagudem.

The warning was initially issued following heavy rainfall caused by a low-pressure system in the Godavari basin, including the Medigadda barrage and Indravati catchment areas. On July 31 at 2.05 am, the water level at Ramannagudem rose to 14.83 metres, prompting the first warning.

Later the same day, the situation intensified. At 5.20 am, the water level increased to 15.83 metres, leading to the second warning. By 10 pm, it further surged to 17.33 metres, resulting in the third warning.

As flood intensity subsided, the water level began to fall. On August 1 at 3 am, it dropped slightly to 17.32 metres, following which the third warning was withdrawn. By 5.10 pm the same day, the level decreased to 15.82 metres, leading to the withdrawal of the second warning.

According to the latest update, the water level at Ramannagudem fell to 14.82 metres at 11.50 am on Sunday (August 2), prompting the Irrigation Department to withdraw the first warning as well.

Meanwhile, District Irrigation Officer B. Appalanayudu stated that the flood discharge at Sammakka Sagar barrage has also been steadily decreasing. The information has been communicated to officials of the Irrigation, Revenue, and Police departments across the Godavari basin.

Following the withdrawal of the first warning, the Irrigation Department has advised concerned officials to take necessary follow-up measures. Appalanayudu expressed gratitude to district officials, public representatives, staff of various departments, and media personnel for their coordinated efforts in managing the flood situation effectively.
