Government approves Rs 3.35 crore to modernise agricultural market yards

Hanumakonda: Farmers in the Palakurthi Assembly constituency are set to benefit from improved agricultural marketing infrastructure after the Telangana government sanctioned Rs 3.35 crore for the development of the Kodakandla and Torrur Agricultural Market Committees. Announcing the approval on Monday, MLA Mamidala Yashaswini Reddy said the funds were released following her repeated representations to the Agriculture Minister and senior officials of the Marketing Department seeking better facilities for farmers. Out of the total allocation, Rs 2.43 crore has been earmarked for the Kodakandla Agricultural Market Committee. The sanctioned works include the construction of a spacious covered shed, a toilet block, a room equipped with an RO drinking water plant, and a partial compound wall around the NABARD warehouse at the Devaruppula sub-market yard. These facilities are expected to improve storage, marketing and basic amenities for farmers visiting the market.

The remaining Rs 92 lakh has been sanctioned for the Torrur Agricultural Market Committee, where a cement concrete (CC) road will be laid from the main entrance of the market yard to the warehouse. The new road is expected to ensure smoother movement of agricultural produce, reduce transportation difficulties and enhance convenience for farmers and traders.

Yashaswini Reddy said the sanctioned projects would modernise agricultural markets across the constituency, strengthen rural marketing infrastructure and provide farmers with better facilities. Chairpersons and members of the Kodakandla and Torrur Agricultural Market Committees, along with farmers, hamalis, traders and public representatives, expressed gratitude to the MLA for pursuing the proposal. They also thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the Agriculture and Marketing Minister, and the Telangana government for approving the funds with a focus on farmers’ welfare.
