Telangana Minister Konda Surekha expressed concern over the death of a leopard in a road accident in Medak district and directed officials to conduct a detailed inquiry and strengthen wildlife protection measures.

WARANGAL: State Forest, Environment and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha expressed deep concern over the death of a leopard in a road accident on a national highway near Gangapur outskirts in Haveli Ghanpur mandal of Medak district.

According to preliminary information, officials suspect that the animal may have died after being hit by a vehicle. However, the Minister directed the concerned authorities to conduct a comprehensive inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.

She instructed forest officials to carry out a postmortem of the leopard as per protocol and submit a detailed report supported by scientific evidence.

The Minister also ordered officials to identify wildlife movement zones along national and state highways passing through forest areas. She emphasised the need for coordination with relevant departments to install warning signboards and establish additional wildlife crossings wherever necessary.

Appealing to motorists, Konda Surekha urged drivers travelling through forest areas to strictly adhere to speed limits and play a responsible role in wildlife conservation. She further stated that a special action plan would be formulated to implement permanent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
