Genelia’s bright smile, sparkling eyes, and vivacious nature have captured the hearts of millions of people across the country for over ten years. So, on her birthday, let’s look back and celebrate the legendary career of this multi-talented actress.
Genelia was born on August 5, 1987, in Mumbai. Yet, she was not destined to become an actress since her graduation. She had a strong desire to join the corporate world and lead a sedentary lifestyle. Studying sports helped her develop a solid career plan, but fate had something else in store for her. Thus, Genelia found herself in the film industry after winning the Parker Pen commercial opposite Amitabh Bachchan.
In 2003, actress Genelia made her acting debut in the Hindi film ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’ with Riteish Deshmukh. In the same year, she also made her Tamil debut in the film ‘Boys’ and debut in Telugu cinema with ‘Satyam’. Thereafter, with great performances in various films, Genelia gained recognition as a budding young star in Indian cinema.
Genelia’s stardom rose high in 2006 when she delivered one of the most brilliant performances of her career in the Telugu film ‘Bommarillu’. She played the role of Hasini, one of the most popular characters in Telugu cinema. Her performance earned her the Filmfare Best Actress (Telugu) award apart from winning her the Nandi Special Jury Award. Decades later, Hasini remains one of the most lovable characters in Telugu cinema.
Post ‘Bommarillu’, Genelia starred in many super hit films like ‘Happy’, ‘Dhee’, ‘Ready’, ‘Santosh Subramaniam’, ‘Sachein’, ‘Sye’, and more. Genelia’s first major Hindi film was ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’, which fetched her great recognition as a leading lady in Hindi cinema. She has also been a part of some great films like ‘Force’, ‘Velayudham’, ‘Urumi’, ‘Katha’, and ‘Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya’. In addition to being a part of commercial flicks, she has also been a part of many performance-driven films.
One of the best qualities of Genelia that has kept viewers glued to her films even after a decade is her ability to bring life and liveliness to her characters. With great comic timing and expressive power, Genelia has been referred to as the Indian cinema ‘bubbly girl’.
Genelia’s journey as the lead heroine in Indian cinema saw its end when she married fellow actor Riteish Deshmukh in 2012 and shifted her complete attention towards her family, having given birth to a daughter. But she retained her status and fan following throughout. Genelia and Riteish have since produced some great movies. Moreover, the couple has also launched a plant-based meat substitute company called Imagine Meats. In 2021, Genelia made a glorious comeback with great performances in the Marathi film ‘Ved’, which turned out to be one of the highest-grossing Marathi films of all time. Thereafter, she stunned the audience with ‘Trial Period’. But 2025 has been one of the most exciting years for Genelia Deshmukh as she has been a part of big-budget films like ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ (starring Aamir Khan) and ‘Junior’ (a bilingual film in Telugu and Kannada). This shows that the bubbly star’s acting skills have not lost their shine even a single bit.
With various other exciting projects like ‘Raja Shivaji’, ‘Gunmaster G9’, ‘Police Station Mein Bhoot’, etc., in the pipeline, Genelia’s stardom is at its peak. However, despite being one of the busiest actresses in the Indian film industry, Genelia’s devotion towards her daughter and business has not changed, which is quite incredible.
On this special day, on the occasion of Genelia Deshmukh’s birthday, let’s appreciate this legendary actress. Wishing Genelia Deshmukh a very Happy Birthday and many more years of success and prosperity!
