MPH Student Found Dead In Gadag University Hostel, Parents Suspect Foul Play

Gadag ; A 25-year-old postgraduate student was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the girls hostel of the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (MGRDPR) University near Nagavi in Gadag district on Friday.

The police have opened an inquiry after finding the body of Veena Hanapur, a resident of Gaddankeri in Bagalkote district, hanging from a cot in her hostel room at the institution.

Although police said Veena was studying Master of Public Health (MPH) at the university, her parents suspected foul play as her feet were dangling when the body was found, the hanging cloth did not belong to her, and there were marks on her face.

They demanded a thorough and impartial inquiry to uncover the actual cause of death as well as punish those responsible if any.

Meanwhile, police personnel from Gadag Rural Police Station and the university authorities arrived at the hostel and examined the body, which was sent for post mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

A case has been registered at Gadag Rural Police Station, and the police are looking into all possibilities, including suicide and murder.

“The post-mortem report, forensic results, and statements from other students and university employees will help identify the cause of death,” said Police.

In the meantime, the student’s family is deeply saddened by the incident and has called for a swift and transparent investigation into the matter. Police said they would take further action based on the results of the inquiry.
