BRAOU signs pact with COL to boost digital education

Hyderabad: Dr BR Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Vancouver, Canada, entered into an agreement to strengthen collaboration in digital education, Artificial Intelligence, faculty development, and technology-enabled learning on August 2 in Vancouver. The MoU was signed by BRAOU Vice-Chancellor Ghanta Chakrapani and COL President and CEO Peter Scott, in the presence of Telangana Department of Education Special Secretary Venkatesh Dhotre.

Ghanta Chakrapani described the partnership agreement as a transformative initiative for BRAOU, stating that it brings cutting-edge global expertise, advanced digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and international best practices to the university. He noted that the collaboration will accelerate BRAOU’s journey towards becoming a globally recognised AI-enabled digital university, strengthening its digital ecosystem to provide high-quality, accessible, and affordable higher education to learners at scale.

The agreement provides for the joint development of Open Educational Resources, scholarly publications, research studies, international mentorship programmes, expert consultations, peer-learning networks, and Joint Expert Teams to oversee work streams through structured Joint Contribution Agreements. The pact represents a major milestone in BRAOU’s internationalisation and digital transformation journey, reinforcing its commitment to technology-enabled learning across Telangana and the Commonwealth. COL President and CEO Peter Scott appreciated the leadership of Ghanta Chakrapani in transforming BRAOU into a digitally empowered open university.

He praised the university’s initiatives in building a comprehensive digital ecosystem, observing that BRAOU is emerging as a digital hub for the future of higher education. He expressed confidence that the agreement would strengthen BRAOU’s capacity to become an international model for AI-enabled open, distance, and digital learning.

Ghanta Chakrapani stated that the partnership agreement operationalises the Memorandum of Understanding signed between BRAOU and COL on November 18, 2025, in Hyderabad in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Kumar Molugaram, Rabindranath Solomon, Pallavi Kabde, and senior COL officials were present at the signing ceremony.
